Georgian Residence
The classical detailing and proportions of this stately 1948 Milton Grigg residence captivated the new owners. Despite its disrepair, they recognized the possibilities and commissioned Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects to modernize the house and enhance its connections to the landscape.
Extensive renovations of the primary living spaces allowed the existing structure to overcome inadequacies commonly found in homes of this era. New designs for the entry, kitchen, dining room, sitting room, and study were tailored to our client’s modern lifestyle and showcase their collections of furniture and artwork.
On the west end, we completed a renovation and addition to relocate the primary bedroom to the first level. The resulting suite is a comfortable respite for the owners with new French doors and a large bay window to strengthen the connection to the garden.
Additions to the east end provided an inviting family room with a vaulted ceiling and glass doors as well as a new covered porch and fireplace to extend enjoyment of the garden into the colder months.
"The accessibility to the outdoors is just fabulous. It makes entertaining fun and easy. We're really thrilled to have a house that we feel comfortable in."
