Esmont Farm
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, Esmont is an early-nineteenth-century country house with ties to Thomas Jefferson. Our client’s goal was to restore the property with historical accuracy and renovate the home for modern living.
Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects designed a new kitchen and family room addition that complements the original structure and provides modern living space. We also worked closely with the preservation community, historians, and artisans to guide the restoration of the interiors and exteriors of the main house, dependencies, and landscape.
Careful detective work allowed for the return of the original configuration of the front porch columns, which had been altered in the early twentieth century.
Enhancing the connection to the landscape, the new south porch makes use of the existing Jeffersonian triple-sash windows without compromising the original fabric of the building.
