The Sports Complex at Enniscorthy

The main house at Enniscorthy sits at the center of a series of gardens and dependencies that enjoy panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The planned Sports Complex calls for a full size indoor basketball court, indoor pool, fitness room, bowling alley, locker rooms, game room, kitchen, guest quarters, and outdoor porches and terraces.  Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects’ challenge was twofold:  to design a large building as a recreational folly that is only glimpsed from the main house, and to diminish the visible mass of the complex while maximizing its connection to views and light.  The Complex is designed as a transitional element between the home’s cultivated garden and the natural landscape beyond.
