Esmont Farm
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, Esmont is an early-nineteenth-century country house with ties to Thomas Jefferson. Our clients’ goal was to restore the property with historical accuracy and renovate the home for modern living.
Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects designed a new kitchen and family room addition to provide modern living space and complement the original structure. We also worked closely with the preservation community, historians, and artisans to guide the restoration of the interiors and exteriors of the main house, dependencies, and landscape.
"After having worked with another interior designer, you have, in my estimation, gone directly from the very best interiors person to sainthood."
— CLIENT
Enhancing the connection to the landscape, the new south porch makes use of the existing Jeffersonian triple-sash windows without compromising the original fabric of the building.
