Ash Lawn – Highland
In 1974 Dalgliesh Gilpin Paxton Architects was asked to contribute to the restoration of Ash Lawn – Highland, the home of President James Monroe, as a historic house museum.
Since that time, we have provided preservation and design services including: Historic Preservation Survey and Condition Assessment; reconstruction and restoration of the Servants’ Building, Overseer’s House and Smokehouse; design of the Visitor Entrance Building and its subsequent expansion; and adaptive reconstruction of the Monroe-era barn as an event and exhibition building.
"There’s the kind of didactic quality you don’t normally see in Historic Preservation."
